Last year, Adventure Travel sent more than 1200 keen travellers to more than 80 different countries. Our clients boarded planes, trains, buses and boats – keen for adventure, new experiences, different cultures, weird and wonderful food – and wildlife experiences.
Viewing exotic and rare animals in the beauty of their habitat is a big draw card for Adventure Travel clients – and who wouldn’t want to trek into the Simien Mountains in the Ethiopian Plateau and view hundreds of rare gelada or bleeding-heart baboons? Take a bone-shaking journey by truck deep into the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania to see hippos, lions, and rhino drinking from the same water hole? Crawl on your hands and knees across the sand on the Galapagos Islands to see the strange and exotic 30-foot long marine iguana and 100-year old giant tortoises? Or take a boat ride down the Amazon River in South America to get a rare glimpse of the boto, or pink river dolphin?
Australia may not be first destination that springs to mind when you’re brain storming your next Adventure Travel trip, but think again. There’s far more to our Antipodean neighbour than the Gold Coast, a cold beer at The Rocks and walking the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Last year a record number of 2.9 million New Zealanders travelled overseas, and the number one destination was Australia.
Got the back-to-work blues? Need a new adventure to look forward to? A bit more excitement in your life? The experts at Adventure Travel have put together a list of holiday ideas for 2018; involving a little bit of adrenaline and a whole lot of adventure.
Who needs an excuse to travel? Studies show that heading off overseas is good for your heart, good for your health, and best of all – good for your happiness.
In a survey by G Adventures four years ago an astounding 83% of people surveyed said travel rated far higher in the happiness stakes than getting married, buying a house or getting promoted at work. At Adventure Travel, we’re not just about travel – we’re about creating extraordinary experiences. Our team of experts put together unique itineraries so people like you can travel the globe what ever the reason; retirement, a new challenge, an adventure, exploring a hobby or interest, some family time, a celebration – or just for the sheer joy of travelling.
Looking back on 2017, here’s a snapshot of some of our clients’ great adventures.
Adventure Travel expert Sam Eves has just returned from a safari through the Madikwe Game Reserve, a hidden-gem that is the fifth largest game reserve in South Africa. The conservation area in the north west province bordering Botswana is home to a variety of exotic wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards and rhinos, plus endangered wild dogs. South African-born Sam has spent more than a decade living in New Zealand, but returning to her homeland was special this time because she took her Kiwi husband for the first time.
